Ok, I haven’t had a lot of time for movies lately. But let me plug The Wire here, a five-season HBO drama about drugs, cops, and life in Baltimore. People kept telling me I had to see it, and I finally picked it up a couple months ago. Now, into the third season, I can understand the hype. Read David Simon’s book, Homicide: Life on the Street, for further context on the series and the reality of Baltimore.

Well, I didn’t get to go to that 10 p.m. movie. No ticket. But I did just see the documentary “The Posters Came From the Walls”, about the essentially-religious following of the 80s band Depeche Mode around the world, from Germany (they played a concert in East Berlin before the wall fell) to Romania (where they were big shortly after the revolution) to Iran (where their music was banned after the revolution).
While it was interesting to watch, the documentary itself was a little static, without a discernible flow or progression. It was just a bunch of these stories strung together. While they were interesting, it did get a little old after a while.
Not being a big Depeche Mode fan myself, but coming home with their music stuck in my head, I turned on Johnny Cash’s version of “Personal Jesus.”

First film of True/False (for us) tonight, at 10 p.m. Stay tuned for a review… unless I fall asleep during the movie.

Well, I’d better add Slumdog Millionaire to my “to-watch” list, since it kicked the most butt at the Oscars, walking away with eight little golden men in hand. I’ve also added Milk, for pretty obvious reasons. It’s too bad I had hardly seen any of the movies up for Oscars, but I have no time for a movie life.
Congrats to Wall-E, also, for taking best Animated Feature Film. I did see Wall-E, and LOVED it. In part, perhaps, because I have loved Hello Dolly! since I was 10.

The most recent kick-ass movie I’ve watched is D.E.B.S. (2004). I don’t have too much time to watch new movies (it takes less energy to watch old ones) but Jess is going to the True/False Film Festival this year, so we’ll let you know if there’s anything spectacular there.
I almost forgot – Man on Wire is very entertaining and beautiful.
